About the war…

Jason Kottke said what I’m thinking better than I could, so I’ll let him do the talking.

The only other thing I have to say is that the crowing and rejoicing about the death of Rachel Corrie on some of the warblogs has been nothing but ungentlemanly and unladylike. Let me make this very clear: civilised people do not behave like that. It doesn’t matter whether you agreed with her or not; we’re supposed to be much better than that, folks.

And to my friends and readers who are currently serving on this mission: come home safe.

"Worst dates ever" story resumes soon

Sorry folks, I only have time for short entries at the moment. Right now, I’m your tax dollars at work (programming for Citizenship and Immigration Canada), so you don’t want me wasting your hard-earned Canadian pesos blogging, do you?

It’s Joey Day today

Of course, on this blog, every day is Joey day. I am, after all, The World’s Most Humble Egomaniac™.

But if you do the Catholic thing (even my mellow, laid-back version) or just live in an Italian neighbourhood, you’ll know that today is the feast day of St. Joseph. He’s best known for being a carpenter and foster dad (like Dennis Miller says, God got to rest on the seventh day only because He sent the Kid to live with another family) so you can celebrate by joining Big Brothers (or Big Sisters) and taking a kid to the hardware store.

Or better yet, taking them belt sander racing!

It’s a musical night tonight

First, I’m off to Electric Machine Studios to do the “session musician thing” and lay down some smokin’ accordion tracks for some band’s single, and then it’s off to Kick Ass Karaoke at the Bovine Sex Club, where the ladies will be throwing their underwear at me ’cause I’m the Filipino accordion-playing Tom Jones. Or so I hope.

Would Dr. Seuss have supported the coming war?

I was reading my entry from Friday last night, and when I hit the part about the hip-hop version of The Lorax, I remembered something about Dr. Seuss. During World War II, he was quite a hawk, and you can see all his cartoons at the Dr. Seuss Goes To War site. It seems at odds with his better-known later work, The Butter Battle Book.

If the Bad Poets from Friday night had read Seuss’ war ‘toons, would they still have performed The Lorax? Activist politics, whether left or right, often calls for an ideological puritanism; disagree on one tiny detail and you’re out of the club.

"The Chemical Brothers? Hah. I’ll show you a REAL Chemical Brother…"

The photo looks real to me, but real or not, it’s funny!

Photo: Saddam spins the wheels of steel at what I suppose is a private party. Looks real to me.

DJ Saddam in the hizzouse! “Just call me the B-Boy of Baghdad, yo!”

I can already hear the hits:

(Do this to the tune of the Beastie Boys’ Fight for Your Right To Party)

You want to have weapons and Bush says “No way”

That hypocrite builds two MOABs a day!
