Cuckold dot com

The ad on TV was for a company that seemed too unreal to be believed. “Romantic rendezvous for attached adults,” the spokespeople said. Even the alliteration they used seemed unreal. At the end of the ad, they flashed an URL on the screen. Since we’ve got wireless Internet and I had my Powerbook on the coffee table, I typed it in.

The company is the Ashley-Madison Agency, and according to their web site, they’re a dating service — with a twist. The slogans on their site are pretty provocative: “For attached women seeking romantic affairs and the men who want to fulfill them” and the pithy “Where monogamy becomes monotony!”

Hmmm…a service that’s going to hook me up with lying cheats with serious issues, make me a homewrecker, get me in all kinds of hassles and probably have some angry husband and possibly kids ready to kill me with their bare hands. Where do I sign up?

Who wants to bet that Ashley-Madison will inspire an episode of Law and Order next season?

Oh, yeah, this one’s a keeper: One member, a divorced 36-year-old animated graphics designer, joined the site at the encouragement of a friend’s husband. “I was feeling quite damaged from a previous relationship and wasn’t looking for a commitment, so I figured I’d check out some married men.” An excerpt from Unfaithful: In Alberta, it’s cheating time again, an Edmonton Post article.

  • So I'm not the only one to find these commercials in somewhat poor taste?

To have my pure thoughts whilst watching South Park at 1am made impure by these commercials... the shame...

(At least they're not running them on YTV during DigiMon when a kid can say "Hey, that's mommy!" with Daddy in the room... yet...)

  • I can't imagine a tasteful way to advertise an infidelity dating service. Not unless they want to do them like the original ads for the Infiniti cars, which were so obscure (Remember them? Rocks. Wheat. Waves. But no actual pictures of a car) that nobody knew what the hell they were selling.

  • Perhaps you're right - I was thinking maybe advertising for just a general dating-type service would be better, but then you're not focusing on your core market.

I just find the whole idea kind of disgusting - not something I would dream of doing. If you're having trouble with your SO... the solution lies with the SO. You don't put out a car fire by watering the garden.

If that makes any sense at all.

  • What's even sadder, is the actual slang meaning for "cuckold." It's not just infidelity, it's actually white couples, who let black men "black" their white wives. The black men are always unprotected, and most go as far as "wife breeding", getting the women pregnant on person. The white couple has no problem carrying around a black child apparently. It's very disturbing.

  • What is disturbing is your obvious bigotry. I use to have the same point of view as you, that was before I learned that no one can satisfy my wife EMOTIONALLY as well as I can, but she showed me that I can not physically compete with the stanima nor the endowment of her black lover.
