My co-worker James (the “Shaft” of top-level domains) pointed me to the trailer (you’ll need Quicktime) for the Japanese movie Casshern, which according to this article is a live-action version of the Japanese anime Casshan: Robot Hunter. My jaw is still on the floor.

Not to worry. A DVD-quality bootleg with Engrish subtitles will probably be available a few days before the theatrical release. đ
And I have a friend passing through Japan in April…. oh gods, I’m actually drooling.

Here’s a really quick and dirty translation of the trailer my friends and myself did. There are no doubt errors a plenty and one sentence we were too lazy to listen to 1000 times in order to hear it:
I would like to announce a single discovery… New Cells. (As in body cells, Shinzou means newly constructed)
(stuff bubbling in vats) Did I really go this far… (referring to the invention)
(guy in white suit) I hear your wife is very sick…
(Motorcycle with two people) What will you do with Luna?
(camera is on fem, male voice) While my friends are fighting how can I stay here?
(No idea what the lab guy said)
(old guy in angry voice?) are you still perfecting the New Cells?
(Bald older gent) What’s this about?
(some sort of airships) The Military is moving.
(couple hugging) I wonder why people fight?
(woman over corpses) what did these people do?
(White angel falling) We’ll call this that controls/defines death “Newly Made Human”. (Shinzou ningen)
(crazy guy with white stuff on his face) Humans… (I or we) will kill them all.

(guy on phone) HURRY UP!
(Man to Woman) I’ll cure you.
Who are you?!

Oh yes, I saw this a few weeks ago, too. I MUST have it. Let me know what you find out about a subtitled DVD.
I saw this trailer several weeks ago and was reminded of it again for some reason yesterday, but I couldn’t remember the title. Thanks for the reminder! Does anyone know the release status for this film?
