One Thank You, One Answer, Two Questions

Thanks to everyone who posted a “My Canada Includes Accordion Guy” banner, linked to the article or made a comment. With the notable exception of my esteemed blog sparring partner Kathy (whose post pointed me to the Enter Stage Right article and whose comments you will find here), the reaction has been nothing but glowing praise.

First, an answer for a reader who asks:

random person me needs to know where in niagara falls you got that
tie!!!! I very much need a tie just like that, and am having trouble
finding it.. please mail me at michellejvecchio@yahoo.com if you can
help me, or remember where in niagara you got it

I can’t remember the exact address of the store, but I can give you a
general idea of where it is…and better yet, in picture form! Here’s a
picture of Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls’ cheesy tourist trap street:

The approximate location of the place where I purchased the tie. Click the picture to see it at full size.

Hope this helps.

Paul informs me that he heard a story that this summer will be nothing
but rain, rain, rain. Can anyone confirm this. and if so, could they
please tell me where the complaints department is?
Another reader makes a comment in response to my election post:
The relentless focus on “The Leader” obscures the fact that you can’t
vote for Prime Minister, you can only vote for your MP. In your case
Joey, you can choose (you’re in Trinity-Spadina, right?) between Olivia
Chow (NDP), who has been actively involved in the community for years,
or Tony Ianno (Gliberal) who has one of the worst attendance records in
the current Parliament.

Where can I get Parliamentary attendance records?

  • There was a story about Toronto-area MPs and their attendance records this week (last week?) on CBC Radio. I can't find a web link, but it was a survey done by a Toronto lobby group.

  • After reading your popular entry, I was tempted to make a comment with egregious use of the phrase "dog-eating flip", but I think that only about three people would find it funny.
And then your fans would burn me in effigy.

  • Hey, Lara:

    • Strick-a-lator's moving into my house.
    • Tell your sister Chris that her pal from school, Tracy, works at Tucows with me.
  • Give Rob a big, sloppy kiss for me. And take lots of photos of it.
I think Chris told me about the Tracy thing. At least, it sounds familiar.
And Heather's been bugging me to tell you that the Triumvirate of Evil Short Brunettes has reconvened. So, if your ears were burning last saturday night, that was the reason.
(This probably should have been done via email, but I'm too lazy to copy it over.)

  • I heard the attendance report on CBC Radio, can't find it on the web. The people who did the report went through Hansard and tabulated the number of times every MP spoke in the House, and their attendance at committee meetings.
There was a clip from Tony Ianno saying he was too busy representing his riding to speak in the House or attend meetings. Cause he's like, y'know busy.
There is a mention from Now from the last election about how Ianno has one of the worst attendance records in Parliament, but they don't give any cites. I guess you would have to go through Hansard yourself. Or you could ask Tony to 'splain.
(sorry this is anon, but I am swamped with registrations and I just can't takes it no more)

  • Here are all 375 references to "Ianno" in Hansard from January 1994 to dissolution last weekend. Some might be to Iannos other than Tony. This will include votes, speeches, and references by other members. I haven't the time to go through them all but 375 references over ten years is not very much at all.
Compare to a few other Liberal backbenchers: Recently deposed Charles Caccia (Davenport): 926; Paul Szabo (Mississauga South): 1430; Sarkis Assidourian (Brampton Centre): 789. This is by no means a representative sample.
As far as choices in Trinity--Spadina go your correspondent left one out. David Watters is the Conservative candidate in the riding. He's a forward-thinking, progressive candidate who will provide those of us who live in the riding with the kind of representation we deserve.
