The neighbourhood in which Tucows is located [PDF
link] is called Liberty Village, named after the east-west Liberty
Street, which runs right through it. It is an industrial area that’s
largely been turned into an office area for the high-tech, design and
entertainment industries, some offbeat places to go (The Academy of Spherical Arts, Joe Rockhead’s, Liberty Cafe, and home to a number of Toronto’s quirkier citizens (including Cory Doctorow,
who used to live in a large
Disney-meets-tiki-lounge-meets-bookworm-themed warehouse
space near the bottom of Fraser Street).
This Thursday, the L:iberty Village BIA (Business Improvement
Association) is hosting a street party called Give Me Liberty. There
are posters for this event all over the neighbourhood promising three
of the things I like most: “Cold Beer. Hot Food. Cool Music.” The fun
starts at 3:00 p.m. and runs until 9:00.

Uh this Friday is the 11th so either they’re having it on Thursday or you might have your wires crossed. Just an FYI is all.
The mistake is mine. I just assumed that such a party would be held on a Friday. I’ll fix the title right now.

Give Me Liberty is a chance for employers to give their employees “liberty” as early as 3pm. Tell your boss! We have the youthful ladies of the York Lions Steel Drum Band entertaining us from 3pm to 4pm and then David Marsden (think 80s think CFNY ) spinning the magic of the 70’s and 80’s then dj Morsecode Raul Vargas taking it home with the happy vintage and modern sounds through to close. We are hoping that closing Fraser Avenue and opening a beer and wine garden will be popular enough to donate some cash to the Autism Foundation of Ontario who are also housed in Liberty Village and will be hosting open Volleyball at the event on the lawn by Lamport Stadium. Lots of good food and plenty of cheer! Spread the word. It should be sweet. It’s the Afterwork Party.
