Mike “M.” Doughty, formerly of Soul Coughing, coiner of the clever phrase “rampant Corganism” and whom Wendy got to
meet recently at a Berkman Center event, asked an audience to hold up
their cell phones while he took some picutres:
He should’ve tried to get them all to make their phones ring Fur Elise. Click the photo to see Mike Doughty’s blog entry.
There are more photos on his blog.
I wonder if somebody yelled “play Freebird!”

If you ever get a chance to see him live, take it. He's a great showman, and well, I love his music.
Now that I've looked, he's playing at Rivoli on the 10th!
The Rivoli is where we do karaoke when I'm there. Holy crap. :)
On his 2002 live album "Smofe + Smang", Mike scolded an audience member who yelled "Freebird" and suggested that "It's Raining Men" replace Freebird as the [song the band probably doesn't actually know, but I'm a jerk who needs to yell something] song.
So now at M. Doughty shows fans will yell out requests for "It's Raining Men" and M. will respond that he does not know "It's Raining Men" but that would play it if he could. The last time I saw him he added that he'd give it his best shot and he and the band launched into a 90-second noise fest.
My standard response to Freebird is to start into Come Sail Away, Eric Cartman style.
man everyone does that at concerts now
it is so lame
Roast Beef? Is that you?
Hahahahahahaha! Truly LOL. :) (This reply is not RB).
am toying with going to Doughty, anyone else?

Lola saw this at the Duran Duran concert in Vancouver in March. She felt both amused and nostalgic at the same time...
