In the six years I lived in the funky Queen and Spadina neighbourhood, I spent a lot of time at the Tequila Bookworm cafe. Not only did I hang out there, but during my time as an indie software developer, it was my office. I’d bring my laptop, buy lunch and lots of Diet Cokes and crank out a lot of software there. I became a regular fixture there, got to know everyone who worked or hung out there and even got involved — briefly and disastrously — with a cute waitress who worked there.
I was surprised to find out in BlogTO that they’d moved. It’s not a great distance — barely half a block west — but they’ve taken over the Epicure Cafe, which has two floors and an upstairs patio in the back. This is a graduation not only to what I think is a larger space, but also to a real kitchen. At the old location, they did all the cooking behind the bar, which often meant that I left the cafe with my clothes smelling like the chicken they cooked on their George Foreman grill.
I’ll have to drop by one of these days.

Unfortunately, the new one is just not the same feel at all. Planning on another blogTO review soon, but I’m actually looking forward to seeing what opens in the old gorgeous location.
Joey, I just read in Saturday’s Star that Gypsy Co-op has closed…
It’s like the whole neighbourhood is going upscale.
Oh yeah.
I forgot…
