Rodrigo Piwonka has come up with a clever idea: using those CD/DVD spindles to carry bagel sandwiches. I’m going to have to try this trick sometime:

Cat Milking
This picture is both cute and a little disturbing at the same time:
An excerpt from the article If We Taught English the Way We Teach Mathematics…:
Imagine that your only contact with “English” as a subject was through classes in school. Suppose that those classes, from elementary school right through to high school, amounted to nothing more than reading dictionaries, getting drilled in spelling and formal grammatical construction, and memorizing vast vocabulary lists — you never read a novel, nor a poem; never had contact with anything beyond the pedantic complexity of English spelling and formal grammar, and precise definitions for an endless array of words. You would probably hate the subject.
The “Best Of” Articles
For those of you who are new to this weblog, I’ve got a “Best Of” page which lists my favourite articles all the way back to 2001.
I know you’re probably working right now, but go ahead and read it! AFter all, isn’t it some someone else contributed to the gross domestic product for a change?
As sensational as the topic of cyberbullying is in light of the Kathy Sierra incident, I believe it’s still the exception rather than the rule. Here are the statistics on threats I have received:
Number of times I have received threats because of my accordion playing on the street: 6 since May 1, 1999, the day I first took the accordion out on the street.
Number of times I have received threats because of my blogging: 1 since November 10, 2001, the day of my first blog post. The threat (a vague one at that) is chronicled in the article At Last, My Blog Lands Me in Hot Water!.
Number of people who’ve taken joy in my misfortunes online: Only one that I’m aware of. She wrote in response to the article What happened to me and the new girl (or, “The girl who cried Webmaster”), one of my weirder moments. Go read the article if you’ve never done so before; I’ll write more about the online schadenfreude later.
As mentioned in this earlier article, Kathy Sierra (see here, here and here if the name doesn’t ring a bell) and Chris Locke appeared on CNN American Morning earlier today. Click here to see the video [9.1 MB QuickTime].
The painful bit is at the end, when anchor TJ Holmes poses asks “How can you threaten the cute kitty?”, a reference to a nickname that some of Kathy’s readers have given her.
Here another good development: Kathy and Chris have also published a joint statement — actually two independently-written statements appearing side by side — on Chris’ site.
I’m a little too busy to editorialize right now, but if you’ve got any opinions to share, please do so in the comments.
Sign of the Times
When the Ginger Ninja sees this photo, I know that she will cackle with glee:
Have I mentioned that I turn 40 later this year?
