Here’s a fun little exercise — can you identify the cartoon characters by their silhouettes in the illustration below?

  • I've got all but two. Or one and a half. Left to right, top to bottom:

    Mickey Mouse
    Daffy Duck
    Barney Rubble
    Stimpy & Ren
    Bart Simpson
    Spongebob Squarepants
    Felix the Cat
    Roadrunner

    Marge Simpson
    Yogi Bear
    Stewie Griffin
    Popeye
    *Someone from Spongebob?
    Charlie Brown
    Bugs Bunny
    Betty Rubble
    Mighty Mouse

    Bullwinkle Moose
    Odie
    Goofy
    Squidward
    Dexter
    Snoopy
    Mojo Jojo
    Olive Oyl
    Pink Panther

    Betty Boop
    Arnold
    Casper the Friendly Ghost
    *Someone and the Professor
    Taz the Tasmanian Devil
    Bobby
    Pinky & The Brain
    Droopy Dog

I'm pretty sure the crab-shaped one in the second row is from Spongebob, but I've never made it through a whole episode of that show so I could be wrong. And it's driving me nuts that I can't remember the name of the kid in the last row, but I know they're from Rocky & Bullwinkle and I'm pretty sure the dog is called The Professor. I actually watched an episode of Rocky & Bullwinkle a couple weeks ago, so I really ought to know this. Of course, I'll look it up as soon as I've posted this comment.

  • Bah! It's Sherman and Mr. Peabody, of course. And the crab character is "Mr. Krabs" from Spongebob, which I never would have guessed.

I'd like to see something like this with a larger variety of shows represented--I think that would make it a bigger challenge. Throw in some Invader Zim, Futurama, South Park, and Saturday-morning characters like Cobra Commander, Rainbow Brite, or Lion-O.

  • Hmm, somehow my first comment got stuck in moderation but my second one didn't. Once it shows up, however, you'll see that I mistook Wilma Flinstone for Betty Rubble. Oops!

  • I got all but 4 of them. I'd say that's pretty good considering I've never watched some of these cartoons. But probably doesn't say anything good about how much TV I watch in general. :D
