Now THAT’s What I Call Technical Innovation

If I ran a bar, all my liquor bottles would be rigged with one of these. They sell for USD$29.99 at the BudK Catalog:

  • I would prefer not being a guy to rain on another's fun but making a faux gun liquor dispenser seems like a bad idea. It adds a fake gun where none is needed and second it brings together something that looks like a gun with liquor. Liquor is a fine occasional pastime (as are guns) but the mix (no pun intended) just rubs me the wrong way. Both liquor and guns should be treated respectfully and this product doesn't treat either product seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if any government liquor authority would prohibit such a tool in a commercial bar.

  • Thane Eichenauer: Hey, Thane! I think that someone's been posting comments to my blog using your name!

You see, the real Thane Eichenauer, would've said that people are smart enough to distinguish between fantasy and reality and be able to enjoy and see the humour in the juxtaposition of two items that might be deadly in combination in the real world. He might even argue that styling of the product is meant to evoke the Old West and its cowboys, which are classical libertarian archetypes. I'm certain he'd say that the free market should decided whether this product is a good idea or not.

Most tellingly, the commenter using your name used the phrase "government liquor authority" without following it with "should be abolished". Such a statement could not come from the Thane Eichenauer I know and like. Therefore, it must not be you.

Either that, or I'm becoming the libertarian of the two of us.
