The Chinese government makes it a regular practice to showcase China’s economic success as a way of selling their one-party, my-way-or-the-highway system of ruling. However, when you interview some of the people who’ve benefitted quite handsomely from that success, it turns out that they want to enjoy their wealth elsewhere: the U.S. and Canada. I can’t say that I blame them – for all the problems we do have, West still remains best.
(Also noteworthy in the linked article: the comments section, especially the tinfoil hatters who keep going “See? And you Obama-lovers want the U.S. to become like China!”)

Interesting article. Very short of real insight, however.
As for the comments, no matter how complex the situation, someone (most?) will find a way to oversimplify it and draw unsupported conclusions (in other words, find spurious support for their preferred ideology, irrespective of all the facts). People are amazingly good at ignoring facts and especially implications which contradict aspects of their constructed belief system. Truth is really not very important to most people.
BTW, your style sheet missing or broken?
Brent: It's working for me. I'll look and see what's up.
It's broken for me as well.
Me too. The CSS's URL returns a 404.

'West still remains best'... How can you feel comfortable publicly and proudly showing your ignorance and stupidity? Well, I guess that is one of the most popular human activities in 2011: talking about things we don't know, but heard other people who heard other people who heard other people ... talk about things they don't know. Humanity is so, so stupid nowadays. I bet you have never even been to China and don't even speak the language.

Helen: You'd lose that bet, gwai lo. And I'm sure you meant to say "one of the languages," right?
