For Those of You Going to Nerd Noise Night Tonight: The 1986 Transformers Movie!

nerd noise night

Nerd Noise Night — a wonderful evening of geek-centric rock — is happening tonight at the Horseshoe Tavern. Tickets are a mere $10, and they’re going fast. A number of bands will take the stage tonight, including The Cybertronic Spree, who dress up as characters from the 1986 Transformers animated film (the only animated Transformers work that features a swear word, and Orson Welles’ last film before he died!) and playing songs from the soundtrack:

In case you’ve never seen the film, a kind soul has shared it on YouTube. Until all are one!

It’s One of THOSE Saturdays

A nice lunch with my family, with great food, then teaching my nephew some jazz basics on the piano. Hope your Saturday’s going well!

My Choice for the New “Doctor”

If it were up to me to pick the new Doctor for Doctor Who, I’d have gone with Paul Johnson’s fake-anime version made in 2010. It’s based on the Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee from 1970 to 1974. Here’s real Pertwee…

…and here’s anime Pertwee, doing something the real Pertwee couldn’t: dropping some smackdown science on thugs in an alley!

Johnson’s anime Doctor Who takes place in Tokyo, so he’s seen fit to give him a Japanese companion, Tomo Kajiura, who seems to be a cop who prefers to wear Daisy Dukes:

It even has UNIT’s Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, still complaining that too many aliens are bulletproof:

There seems to be a legal requirement for anime, even fake non-Japanese anime, to have at least one schoolgirl uniform:

Of course, it’s not Doctor Who without bad guys. There’s The Master, see here in front of one of Japan’s ubiquitious canned coffee-dispensing machines. The coffee logo in the cartoon, Coffee Master, is modelled after the real-life brand Boss Coffee:

I rather like this faux-Japanese treatment of the Cybermen:

And of course the Daleks are there too:

It’s all pretty amusing, and it’s pure crack for someone who appreciates both Doctor Who and anime. Enjoy!

Old Guys from Star Trek

patrick stewart - how dreamy

I figured this would make a good follow-up to my previous post featuring photos of Patrick Stewart’s archery lessons.

The Old Guys From Star Trek Tumblr has some rather amusing pictures, including these two “Teen Beat”-style magazines devoted to the men from the pre-J.J.-Abrams-era Star Treks:

This photo of Ian McKellen (Magneto in the X-Men films, Gandalf in the Tolkien films) and Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier in the X-Men films, Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation) with a bow and arrow appeared on Patrick Stewart’s Twitter feed.

Update

Here are more photos from Patrick Stewart:
