Youth of America, who describe themselves as “a politically charged pro conservative/libertarian band” based in Reno, Nevada are looking for a vocalist. “Think Rage against the machine vocals and that’s what we’re looking for,” reads their Craigslist ad, before it makes very clear that their politics are more Rage that is very clearly in favor of the machine.
These guys are going to be entertaining, but for the same reasons why there’s never been a conservative late-night comedy show that was any good (or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, why liberals are terrible at talk radio). It’s not one of their strengths.
This sort of musical project generally ends up having some of the form but none of the substance of the real thing. The best/worst example I can point you to is the rap number that Turkmenistan’s president, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedow, released in 2018:
If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to see Last Week Tonight’s piece on Turkmenistan’s wacky authoritarian leader.
Of course, Rage Against the Machine had their reaction to this ad:
Darn you we’ll do *exactly* what we’re told to… pic.twitter.com/tyfNEQNhN1
