This will depend entirely upon your definition of "passable" but, while I have certainly eaten my share of instant grits and oatmeal in my day, I'd suggest getting the plain and adding your own butter, salt, and pepper rather than eating the "butter" flavored stuff. As I recall, that was pretty salty - and, of course, you never know what they're calling butter.
