Update: Some quick notes…
- I didn’t compile or make these images; I found ’em, thought they were neat and posted them for everyone to see.

The Simpsons episode with the soap box derby — Saturdays of Thunder — refers to a number of movies, starting with the title’s reference to Days of Thunder. In the stills I have, I recognize the Ben Hur references in the last two shots, but I don’t know what the other two films are. If you know, let me know in the comments!

Second one is The Natural.
first one is still Days of Thunder… that’s Tom Cruise visiting one of his competitors. And the second one is from The Natural – Glenn Close in the stands.
It’s “Days of Thunder” and “The Natural” but the fourth Simpsons still (and Nelson’s car in general) is an homage to “Death Race 2000”
I think the forth frame is more a homage to “Grease” during the race in the L.A. river. Even the spike on the wheel looks similar
I think the soap box race is a reference of little rascals the soap box scene
