“The microbrew of hummus”

Tap the photo to see it at full size.

With the slogan “The microbrew of hummus”, they’re probably trying to say “It’s really, really good”, or “It’s made with care and natural ingredients in small batches,” or even “Cooler than your average hummus”.

But it could also be interpreted as:

  • “Made by skinny white guys with really huge beards who ride unicycles who listen to too much Bon Iver.”
  • “You’re supposed to put this in a preciously tiny bowl as part of a hummus flight.”
  • “We took a strong-tasting ingredient that normally goes into it, and then used too much.” For microbrew, it’s hops — what would it be for hummus? Garlic?
  • “We added something that normally doesn’t go into hummus.” I really can’t complain about that. I enjoyed 7venth Sun’s peanut-mole stout the other night, and there’s some pretty nice dessert hummus on the market these days.

Hey, Tampa Bay nerds: Comic World’s owner had a stroke and needs our support this weekend!

Due to a stroke that Comic World’s owner Patrick Potter had earlier this month, the store has been closed for weeks and their rent is past due. The landlord is strongly suggesting that they move out, despite the fact that the store’s been there since 1982 and he’s been a tenant since taking over the business in 1992.

In order to save the business, he’s holding a sale from Friday, November 29th through Sunday, December 1st where everything on the main sales floor is 50% off and the collectibles behind the counter and on the wall are 20% off. I’ll swing by the shop tomorrow afternoon, and you should too!

Here are the details:

  • What: Comic World’s 3-day Post-Stroke Christmas Sale
  • Where: Comic World (12675 Seminole Blvd, Largo)
  • When: Friday, November 29th through Sunday, December 1st, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • What to expect: 50% off most stuff in the store, 20% off the special collectibles
  • Why: Because one medical emergency shouldn’t wipe you out

Here’s what Comic World’s Patrick Potter posted on Facebook:

STROKE VICTIM / STORE OWNER ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS SALE

I’m Patrick Potter and I have a problem.

I had a stroke November 5th that is threatening my ability to stay in business.

I’ve been in the comic book business in Largo, Florida for 37 years. I was hired by the original owner of Comic World in 1982 and bought the store in 1992. I have served the Tampa Bay Community for all these years but now I do so at a great disadvantage.

On November 5th I had a stroke in the early morning hours. Because I didn’t know the exact time of the stroke, I was not given TPA, which is a drug that can help reverse the stroke. Therefore, I have partial paralysis on my right side. I have to go through physical therapy in order to regain the use of my leg and arm.

My comic book store has been closed since November 5th. As a result of this, my landlord is suggesting — strongly — that I move out since the rent is past due and he doesn’t think we will be able to catch up.

I know that I have a store full of merchandise, and there are great treasures there that are perfect for Christmas and Hanukkah.

That’s why I’m having a 3-day Post-Stroke Christmas Sale — for starters — on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 29th, 30th, and December 1st.

This will be one of several sales through the end of December.

All items in the store on the main sales floor will be 50% off. I have some other collectible comics behind the counter up on the wall and they will go for 20% off.

Come one, come all and help Comic World remain in business to serve the Tampa Bay Community.

I will be there despite being confined to a wheelchair with the help of my amazing wife Ashley. We will swing people some great deals, so don’t delay, come on by and take advantage of this momentous event.

Yes I am trying to keep my store in business despite a devastating stroke. I believe I will be able to recover, but right now I need the help of the community that I have served faithfully for 37 years.

We hope to see you Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The hours we plan to open are 12 noon to 6 p.m.

12675 Seminole Blvd
Largo, FL 33778

Please share this event and spread the word.

Thank you.

A more accurate version of that Photoshopped Trump/Rocky photo

Earlier today, the Narcissist-in-Chief tweeted the photo above.

As you can see, there’s a distinct lack of moobs in this shot. Luckily. some internet wag took the reverse approach and put Rocky Balboa’s head on Trump’s body. Here’s the result:

“The Mandalorian” gets the spaghetti western trailer it deserves!

I love Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns. I love The Mandalorian, which pretty much is a spaghetti western in the Star Wars universe.

Enter Lance Krall, who took scenes from The Mandalorian and turned it into a trailer for the series, in the style of the Italian promos for the films where Clint Eastwood played “the man with no name”.

Here’s what he came up with:

And for comparison’s sake, here are the trailers for A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:
